Impact Damage Repairs
A collision, grounding or accidental knock can damage both the gelcoat and the fibreglass beneath it. BrainWaves GRP repairs impact damage on yacht and motorboat hulls, decks and other GRP structures, from deep gouges to fractured laminates and punctures. We provide mobile boat repairs from Warsash across Southampton and the wider Solent.
We assess the visible damage alongside the surrounding structure to establish an appropriate repair. Where the impact has compromised the laminate, the work addresses that damage before the surface is refinished.

Damaged material is removed as required and the affected area rebuilt to suit the original construction. The surface is then shaped and faired before gelcoat colour matching or application of the appropriate coating. Our aim is a sound repair with a finish that blends into the boat.

Send close-up photographs and wider views showing the position of the impact. If you have a survey or an insurer’s requested repair scope, include it with your enquiry. We can discuss inspection, access and the work required before providing a quotation.
Yes. We carry out cosmetic and structural repairs to GRP vessels following collisions and accidental impacts. The method depends on the depth of the damage and the vessel’s construction.
Holes and punctures can often be repaired by reconstructing the affected laminate and finishing the surface. An inspection is needed to establish the surrounding damage and the required access.
Yes, where the work involves GRP damage. Grounding can also affect the keel attachment and other structures, so surveyor or engineer input may be needed to establish the full repair scope.
We aim to blend the repaired surface with the existing gelcoat colour, shape and gloss. The final match depends on factors including ageing, previous repairs and the condition of the surrounding finish.
Contact us with photographs, any survey report and the insurer’s requirements. We can discuss the repair scope and quotation; approval and claim decisions remain with your insurer.
They are useful for an initial assessment but may not reveal fractures or delamination beneath the surface. Inspection, and sometimes opening up, is needed before the complete extent is known.
